With unthinkable restraint, God has chosen to partner with human beings to write His greatest and most amazing stories of life transformation. There are countless Christians who’ve realized that prayer unlocks the power of God’s Holy Spirit—the key to bringing those stories to life. Those people are praying for you today. Some are praying in general terms,
“God, help the people who read these posts to know and understand Your love. Please open their hearts to the moving of Your Holy Spirit. Help them to see and know You for who You really are.”
Some are praying more specifically—praying for you by name. You may have thought of someone when you read that. It may be your co-worker, an aunt or uncle, an old classmate, or even an ex. Their prayers probably sound more like this,
“Father, I bring my friend James to You today. I know You love him. I know You see him right now, and You know everything about him. You know the issues in his heart’s past that are keeping him from coming to You. Right now, I come against those distractions and deceptions of the enemy in the name and authority of Jesus Christ. Father, I pray that in Your mercy and Your love, You’d make that path clear for him. I know he’s been through a lot. His heart needs Your comfort and rest, Father. I’m asking for You to meet with him today. Take him by surprise with Your attention and Your love. I pray that he would look into Your face and see truth about who You really are. Help him understand that You love him and want what’s best for him. He doesn’t need to be afraid of You. Reveal to him that a life with You is better than anything he’s chasing. My heart breaks for him, Father, but I know You want him to come home to You even more than I do. I’m trusting in Your plan for James. You are good. You are love. You are truth. Please help James see that today. If You choose to use me in his story, please give me the grace and wisdom to represent You well every time we’re together. I love You, Father. I trust You. Thank You for loving each of us so much.”
We believe prayers like that move the heart of God. And the simple truth about your life today is that God hasn’t abandoned you. He hasn’t forgotten you. He’s moving in your life, and He wants you to come home to Him. His Holy Spirit is doggedly pursuing you with a scandalous, relentless, determined love. The fact that you’re reading this post is evidence of that. It’s also an answer to someone’s prayer.
Don’t let another week go by without turning this thing around. Come back. Back to where you took that turn. Back to a place where you can talk to God again and tell him every frustration and hurt in your heart. Let Him take those things off of your shoulders. Come back to a place where people love you and want to see God’s best for you. Back to church. Back to God.
